An AI Narrator runs your horror tabletop RPG — and speaks it aloud
A 1980s-flavoured horror one-shot at a table that never closes, in your browser.
Hellfire Club is a tabletop role-playing game with an AI Game Master. There is no script and no dialogue tree: you type what you do in plain words — "I walk away and wait for him to raise his offer", "I stage the scene so the monster takes the blame" — and the Narrator answers with consequence, in prose, out loud, in a voice of its own. It runs the world, plays every villager and villain, remembers what you did, and makes it matter later.
How a turn works
- You type anything. Not options — anything. The Narrator answers what you actually said.
- The dice are real. When the outcome is in doubt, you roll — a d20 in the tray decides, and the Narrator narrates the hit, the miss, or the critical.
- Damage counts. Your survivors carry hit points, wounds, and worse. They can die. Bury the fallen, forge the new.
- Every word is spoken. The Narrator reads each scene aloud — play it like a late-night radio drama with your name in it.
Forge your survivors
Character creation is a short Session Zero: answer four questions about who you are, and the forge writes the sheet — name, archetype, stats, an edge worth using and a flaw worth exploiting, gear, and a hook that ties you to the tale. One line of concept becomes a playable survivor in under a minute.
Six campaigns
- Hunt for the Manyhead — classic sword & sorcery. Eight heads, acid blood, and a lord who wants them brought back.
- What the Moon Takes — full-moon folk horror on the forest's edge.
- The House Beside Tomorrow — planar intrigue beside the curtain of Time.
- Ten Thousand Fathoms Down — twenty thousand leagues beneath the planes.
- The Brass Bargain — a four-hour heist on the Plane of Fire.
- One Small Favour — a goddess's errand across five planes.
Questions people ask
- Is it free to try?
- Your first 15 turns are free, no account needed. After that, membership is $5 a month — every campaign, every character. Cancel any time, and you keep the month you paid for.
- Do I need dice, books, or a group?
- No. It plays solo in the browser. The dice are on screen, and the Narrator carries the rules — you only bring decisions.
- What is the Narrator, honestly?
- A large language model with a game master's discipline: campaign briefs it follows, dice it must respect, and a voice engine that reads its narration aloud. Your typed words are sent to it to be answered — that's the whole trick, and our privacy policy spells it out.
- Can my character actually fail?
- Yes. Rolls miss, acid burns, survivors die. The Narrator is fair, not kind.
- Does it work on my phone?
- Yes — it's a website. Anything with a modern browser and sound.
